Challenge 23

Don’t Pay Back – Pay it Forward:

AccountantPushingWheelBarrowOfCash.gif

Do good kind deeds for people without an expectation of the return of the kindness.

When we truly learn to give freely and without obligation is when we are adept enough to move into a higher realm of opportunity. As we start to unselfishly give we unleash great power that crushes negativity and selfishness. To give something that costs us, but with no expectation of return of the favour, we are then unwinding ourselves from the bondage of selfishness and greed. While ever we are tied to this culture of needing to possess and hold onto things that we consider of value, we remain bound up with caring only for ourselves.

As I said at the end of Challenge 20, when we can give out of a generous heart, we start to move into the area of caring about others, which is where true relationships are formed. As we learn to be the instrument through which giving, caring, and sharing flow; we start to build harmony not only in ourselves but also with others around us, this again causes the rippling effect that keeps circling out affecting more and more people with positive influences.

Our society has become very much a payback type mentality. Someone does something that we do not like and then there comes this resentment, the causes that come from this resentment is that we must pay them back for the way we were treated. This process will only always end in continual bitterness and the causes that come from this bitterness is strife. Strife causes many negative emotions including anger, hatred, these can lead to physical outbreaks include verbal abuse and that can lead to fighting or even murder. This is a worst case scenario but it is starting to happen all too frequently in today’s society. So a good way to help break that cycle is by paying it forward by an act of kindness; this always has positive results. There is something within all of us that wants to give kindness and love, but so often has becomes clouded by fear and hatred.

Practice doing good kind deeds for others who probably don’t deserve it; but do it anyway. This breaks the negative cycle that so many are caught in. So the idea behind paying it forward is to show kindness and generosity and encourage the recipient of your generosity to go and find someone they can do something kind for and a big plus is that the rippling just continues on. It does not have to be a big thing because as you know a small pebble can make a lot of ripples on a still pond.

It is like sowing seeds of kindness that one day you will reap a harvest of positive good things that will come back to you. So instead of the constant negatives that seem to attack you, your life will start to produce good positive results. I believe very strongly that what we sow today, we will eventually reap the fruit of what we have sown. So we can continue sowing negative responses or change to sowing positive responses and you will see the difference it will make in your life and circumstances as well as the other you sow into.

While even we continue to promote selfishness and unkindnesses we will never find true peace and harmony in either our physical or spiritual life. There is nothing better than to be able to give to a need out of kindness and love. The bond that is formed is one that lasts and is wholesome and worthwhile. There is a saying that I came across many years ago that says “Practice Acts of Kindness and senseless Acts of Beauty.” This sums up what I am trying to convey in this session.

So to pay it forward is to initiate acts of kindness to those you know and also to complete strangers. As you can practice these responses you will have a very positive influence into the world that you live.
